Default I keep getting an "error report" window at program launch

I keep getting an "Error Report" window at program launch. The "Error Details" say: Type mismatch

If I kill that window, then Pop-Up Menu Creator disappears. If I submit a bug report, then kill the window, it still disappears. I am using Pop-up Menu Creator 5 build 285 on WinXP Pro, SP2 with all the latest patches.

It appears I can keep using Pop-up Menu Creator 5 if I do not kill that window, but I constantly check the deployed menus because I'm paraniod something isn't right.

I got a huge site I have to build this month, please help.

JB

HI! When the program starts is one of your menu's being loaded automaticly or is it the default new menu project?

Here is one thing that I would like you to try (If you have not already)

1: Uninstall popup creator
2: make sure all the popup creator files in the main folder are gone. ( You can keep your custom styles in the Styles Folder).

3: close all windows programs. (Including what is in the system tray)

4: Use this program to look for and fix any popup creator entries that are left behide in the registry with this tool. http://www.ccleaner.com/download
After download close browser.

4a: When CCleaner is installed click on the registry icon and then click the "Scan for Issue" button at the bottom. If you find entries just select them and then click "Fix Selected Issue" button at the bottom right.
Do a scan at least twice then proceed to 4b:.

4b: Next click the Cleaner icon, There are two tabs " Windows" and "Applications" We are only interested with "System" category in the "Windows" tab. Deselect all in both tabs except for the "System" Category in the "Windows" tab. Click "Run Cleaner"

4: Exit program and reboot computer.

5: Install the Full version of popup menu creator.
You can download the full version from this URL:
http://www.anoxy.com/download/popup5.exe

Let us know if this resolves the issue ;)

Paul D

Default Thanks for the fix, but could it be because of new build 286?

Hey Mr. Paul D., I followed your excellently described procedure exactly and I'm all set now, thanks for the fix!

I've used CrapCleaner before, I should have thought to use it this time, too. I also took your suggestion to re-download a new popup5.exe file, even though I felt I did not need to. I placed it next to the one I downloaded yesterday (which was build 285) right after I paid for a web designer license, and noticed that the size was slightly different. After it installed today's version it ran successfully (and it found my registration data automatically), and I noticed it was now build 286.

So the purpose of me announcing this is: if any of you have version 285, it might make sense to get 286 instead, to avoid the annoying issue I just had.

To answer your first question, it was loading the default menu project, have not created any new menus with this version yet. In fact, you might find it humorous that up to this day I've been using Pop-Up Menu Creator version 3.72 (I think that my old registration data goes back to December 2000 or so). Believe it or not, I've been using that same old version on and off over the years, and never upgraded until now. The main purpose I upgraded was to support pop-up menus for non-IE browsers, because that old version was never Firefox or Opera compatible. However, it appears that there are a ton of new features, so I'll be on a learning curve for a few days.

Hope I can return the favor someday, Paul D, thanks again.

JB

Default Not happy...

I had experienced the identical problem above, using Vista Home Premium. I've tried the fix using CCcleaner as suggested - following all the steps. It does not work.

This is what happens:
1. First I get this dialogue coming up with an error telling me that there is an Active X error. It invites me to submit what caused the error.
2. If I delay for a few seconds, popup creator loads up behind that error dialogue.
3. Then the error dialogue becomes non-functional and cannot be closed down. And I cannot access the popup creator software that would have loaded up behind ther error dialogue.

I would have to go into Task Manager and do EndProcess on popup5.exe to get it all closed down.

This means that I am not even able to register or to use the software.

Some one please help.

I should have said that the error I'm getting is:

"ActiveX component can't create object"

I've searched net and it seems to be a common error. But where do I start to fix this?

Is this a PopupCreator problem or something with VB runtimes, or is that that some files aren't being registered on installation?

HI! Download this trial version and run it. it will ckeck for activex problems. In this trial version you are only able to fix 4-5 problems at a time so check the activex and fix any you recieve.

Hi,

Try re-installing the program as probably one of the ActiveX controls required by the program wasn't registered corectly

What I did:

Removed the PopupCreator (I mean uninstalled completely)

Restarted computer.

Did loads of registry fixes for activeX with Systweak and RegistryBoost 2.

Restarted computer.

Shut down all background applications.

Re-installed PopupCreator 5.

Result: Same problem.

If I can just lose the error screen I might be able to get to what's running behind it. So far going into TaskManager is the only way to shut down popup5.exe - after this terrible problem.

I've never had ActiveX problems before on this computer.

I'm stuck now.

You should also make sure you download and update your scripting runtime engines from Microsoft:

Let me know if this helped ;)
